Master of Science (M.Sc.)
Polymer Technology

Philosophy and Objectives of the Program

Produce graduates with a basic knowledge, in-depth problem-solving skills, and innovation creation related to rubber and polymer technology, with an emphasis on creating technology and innovation from rubber that can be further developed for use in the development of the country’s economy and society.

The M.Sc. in Polymer Technology program aims to produce graduates with the following characteristics:

  1. Have morality, ethics, and professional ethics; you can make judgments as an expert with fairness, clarity, and good values.
  2. Have thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding in the field of rubber and polymer technology, with an emphasis on rubber technology; have creativity; and be able to integrate various related disciplines for research and development of knowledge, technology, and innovation.
  3. Have the ability to think analytically and systematically to creatively solve problems, can make decisions in their operations, and have the ability to learn new disciplines by themselves.
  4. Have high responsibility in their duties and work well with others.
  5. Have the ability to communicate effectively and use information technology appropriately in researching, planning, conducting research, presenting work, and following up on the progress of technology and innovation.

   Highlights of the program

The Master of Science in Polymer Technology program produces graduates with expertise in the science and research of rubber and plastic product processing, focusing on tire products, automotive parts, rubber gloves, and condoms. Graduates from the program can work in potential existing industries (First S-curve), such as modern vehicles, the agricultural industry, and biotechnology, and future industries (New S-curve), such as biofuel and biochemical industries (e.g., bioplastics and smart materials). In addition, the program integrates research for thesis with the industrial sector and provides opportunities for those interested in developing themselves into rubber and plastic entrepreneurs to choose to study module courses.

  • Development of nanocomposite materials, smart materials, conductive polymers, and thermoplastic elastomers
  • Rubber reinforcement technology, focusing on developments for the tire industry
  • Rubber recycling technology and environmentally friendly rubber technology
  • Chemical modification of rubber and polymers for new applications
  • Latex technology

Researchers or academics in polymer or rubber technology in both higher education institutions and research institutes in both the public and private sectors; polymer technologists or rubber technologists in the industrial sector; entrepreneurs in polymer or rubber technology.

(1) Plan A Type A 1 36 credits
·      Thesis 36 credits
(2) Plan A Type A 2 36 credits
·      Specific courses 10 credits
·      Elective course 8 credits
·      Thesis 18 credits

Details of the courses and study plans can be read at

(1) Plan A Type A 1

A graduate of a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree or equivalent with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.00, or a graduate of a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree or equivalent and has research experience or work experience in the industrial sector in the field of rubber technology or polymers for no less than 1 year. Students who wish to study in Plan A Type A 1 must pass the written selection examination and interview by the Curriculum Management Committee and have a letter of recommendation from a teacher who has taught or worked.

(2) Plan A Type A 2

A graduate of a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree or equivalent. In the case that a student has a cumulative GPA of less than 3.00, they must pass the written selection examination and interview by the Curriculum Management Committee. Other qualifications in addition to (2) are at the discretion of the Curriculum Management Committee.

The quality of the master’s degree is widely accepted, and one can work in both the government sector and the rubber and plastics industry. There are 99 graduates with more than 60 publications in international academic journals, and there are people who benefit from the research results as co-funders.

  • There are research works, creative works, and innovations that create value to develop potential and competitiveness, leading to the registration of intellectual property and commercial use.
  • There are many publications from research works in international academic journals, Web of Science, and SCOPUS.
  • The 2019 Master’s Thesis Honorable Mention Award in Physical Sciences of the University.
  • Alumni of the program received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 2019.
  • Students in the program participated in the SME-D Scale Up Rubber Hackathon competition in 2018 and won the regional championship.
  • Students in the program participated in the 9th (2018) and 10th (2019) Research to Market (R2M) competitions and advanced to the regional round.
  • There are research and innovations that respond to the application to solve problems and develop communities, localities, society, and the industrial sector.
