Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
ภาควิชาคณิตศาสตร์และวิทยาการคอมพิวเตอร์
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, established in 1990, is one of the early departments of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The purpose is aimed at teaching mathematics, statistics, and computer science; research; and academic services, covering the Bachelor of Science Program in Applied Mathematics, the Master of Science Program in Research Methodology, the Doctor of Science Program in Research Methodology, the Bachelor of Science Program (Education) in Mathematics, the Minor in Mathematics, and the Minor in Statistics.
History
In 1990, the Faculty of Science and Technology accepted students in the Applied Mathematics program as the first batch under the Department of Science and Mathematics.
In 1993, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was established by upgrading the status from the Department of Mathematics to the Department of Science and Mathematics.
In 1995, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invited Professor Dr. Donald Roy MacNeill to organize a master’s degree program in Research Methodology to develop knowledge and skills in health, ecology, education, and social development in the southern region.
In 1996, the first batch of the master’s degree program in Research Methodology was opened.
In 2003, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science organized a PhD program in Research Methodology for students who wish to complete a doctoral degree with the highest international standards without having to pay any fees and avoid the uncertainty of enrolling in an international institution.
In 2011, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science opened a master’s degree program in Applied Mathematics. It is the first generation to produce graduates with applied mathematics knowledge that can conduct research and apply it in various fields, such as financial mathematics, agricultural applied mathematics, applied mathematics for meteorology, etc.
In 2021, the bachelor’s degree program in applied mathematics was revised to be a program in mathematics and computer science. The master’s and doctoral degree programs in research methodology were revised to Research Methodology and Data Analytics, and the Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics was also revised to Applied Mathematics and Innovation in Teaching.
