Academic service Halal Food Science Center

History

Halal Food Science Center is an agency within the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Science and Technology, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus. It has been operating since the end of 2003 under the project name “Providing services, analyzing, researching, and developing Halal food products in Pattani Province” to respond to the government’s policy that has set a “Strategy for the Development of the Halal Food Industry” of the country, operating in parallel with the driving of the food industry of the Industrial Estate Authority.

It has integrated its work with the Provincial Public Health Office, the Provincial Industry, the Provincial Islamic Committee, and the National Science and Technology Development Agency. The operation has been continuous, and the mission has been expanded.

Until 2010, it was adjusted to be the “Halal Food Science Center Establishment Project,” an agency under the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Faculty of Science and Technology, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus. The mission is to provide services and be a source of refuge for communities at all levels in the lower southern region. The goal is to improve the quality of life and economy of the community with the potential and resources available.

Objectives and Missions

Objectives of the Halal Food Science Center

  1. To support Halal food entrepreneurs in the southern border provinces to develop products and food production sites in accordance with GMP and HACCP-HALAL standards
  2. To provide food quality analysis services in accordance with international standards, industrial standards, community product standards, and the requirements of the Ministry of Public Health
  3. To research and develop Halal food products that are consistent with the context of the area and market
  4. To transfer knowledge and technology in food production to entrepreneurs and interested groups in the area to be able to produce a variety of products and meet customer needs
  5. To develop model schools for age-appropriate nutrition in the 3 southern border provinces

The mission of the Halal Food Science Center

  1. Consultation work on product development and development of business establishment quality to meet standards
    Consultation and development of business establishments to be in accordance with GMP, HACCP, and HALAL standards, as well as development of products in the area to be diverse, including consulting personnel in schools on nutrition
  2. Technology transfer and training work
    Provide training, transfer knowledge and understanding in both food product production technology and food industry business operations, and improve food product quality to meet standards, including promoting quality of life in terms of nutrition for school-aged children.
  3. Food product quality analysis work
    Provide food and beverage product quality analysis services to the food industry in order to control food quality to meet the standards of the Ministry of Public Health announcement and community product standards in terms of microorganisms, chemistry, and physical aspects. Including food quality analysis for the development of GMP systems and other quality control systems
  4. Product Research and Development
    Provides research and development services for Halal food products that meet the needs of entrepreneurs, consumers, and the Halal food market.
  5. Food Sterilization Plant
    Provides food sterilization services without seeking profit to help food business startups. It was granted a food production license in 2016.

Goal

  1. Develop as a learning center for food science and nutrition.
  2. Develop knowledge and technology in the food industry.
  3. Support the government’s policy to support the Halal food industry.
